You’ve worked hard to master your craft, but are you in a salon that truly values your artistry, supports your growth, and fuels your creativity?
Too often, talented artists feel stuck in spaces where...
They’re just another faceless, nameless stylist stuck behind a chair, reduced to emojis so clients can't request them...
Giving up at least half their income...
Or wandering around aimlessly trying to figure it all out...
Alone...
And unable to reach their full potential.
Let’s be real—traditional salon models aren't working for us.
Let's Take A Look Behind The Curtain of the
Top 3 Models...
💸 Commission salons control your schedule, clients, and income...
They take the biggest cut and control when you get paid...
They set your hours...
Dictate the services you do...
And what price tag is associated with it...
They are literally telling you and everyone around you what you are worth...
They would never help you outgrow them...
Most won’t even let you access your client list!
Keeping you trapped...
Dependent...
Hopeless.
Like my mom and co-founder of fille Garrow's, Alex Garrow, did back in the 80's.
She told me they called her "Sunflower"...
Seems harmless enough...
But what it meant was, you are just one of the many...
The many stylists that will work at the station...
With a sunflower.
💺 Booth rental gives you “freedom,” but without mentorship, support, or structure...
You’re on your own trying to figure everything out...
And, maybe you do okay...
Like us, we were booked!
We had outgrown our space and decided to open our own place...
A few other stylists wanted to come with us...
So, we let them!
The more the merrier, right!?!
And, we let them pay the cheapest rent in town...
Practically splitting the rent...
I mean, we never wanted to make money off the backs of other women...
We're all hardworking stylist with real families to support...
But, in the long run...
That didn't really help anyone...
Not them...
And certainly not us...
The Problem is...
Our mindset held everyone back...
I was looking at it all wrong...
We Often Open These Businesses Because We're Good at Hair...
And We Want to Work With Our Friends, BUT...
Nobody Ever Taught Us How To Be Good Bosses... OR How To Be Good Business Owners.
We end up opening salons like this thinking...
We're going to run a business...
Can't be too hard, right?
I mean, we're great at hair...
And we're totally likable;)
But instead, we find...
We’ve just bought ourselves another job...
Congratulations!
You've got like 150 boss-clients...
And now, you've got stylist-bosses, too...
You don't believe, huh?
Ask yourself this...
Who calls who when the hot water goes out?
Who has to race in to deal with the water damage from a 48-hr leaking toilet, frayed water line to your shampoo bowl, overflowing washing machine, ice melting from a broken fridge, and every natural disaster that blows shingles off the roof?
Who calls who when someone other than yourself leaves a mess behind?
Who's problem is it really when...
the chairs at the shampoo bowls won't recline anymore? Or the hydraulics go out on one of the chairs?
Still think you're the boss?
Didn't think so...
Or, if you're a stylist working as a sol proprietor renting a booth...
Did you know that means you are responsible for attracting your own clients?
That it's not the salon owner's responsibility to give you clients? Or even help you get them...
That means you have to know how to market yourself and your business...
How about keeping clients? Or rather...
Delivering a service soooo good, they want to keep coming back to you...
Do you know how to create an experience that makes people love you and their hair?
Did you know how much more there was to do beyond the chair?
I didn't! I mean, I was raised in a salon...
I knew how to do the right stuff...
But, I didn't really know why it was right...
Anyway...
You still have the client bosses...
But you also have an owner-boss that just can't seem to...
Get your peers to clean-up after themselves...
Or contribute anything to the space...
Like not even a roll of toilet paper!?!?
You're frustrated...
Ticked off...
And definitely looking for something better!
You even feel bad for your owner-boss...
Because you know she doesn't know what to do...
And, you realize, she's probably a little afraid of losing the rent...
Since, you know it's the "best deal" out there...
You know, she ain't making any $$$ off anyone...
Not to mention, stuff is falling apart...
But that ain't gonna happen...
You're afraid to leave because you know what it's like out there...
With other owners always raising your rent...
Or trying to lock you into a ridiculous commission regime...
And you know she'd never do that to you...
But what choice do you have?
You're gonna lose your mind if you find...
One more dirty color bowl left in a dirty sink...
One more overflowing trash can...
Or One more load of laundry...
Crammed to the brim with every single...
Towel, cape, and smock...
I mean, who could work like that?
How can you start your day like that?
Who even??? Like Whaaaa?!?!
I should know...
Since that's exactly what happened to us...
We were the terrible bosses...
That just wanted to make everyone happy...
And failed miserably...
Which, must be such a common theme...
Because it attracted the attention of big corporations...
Who decided to step in and save the day with this next trending model...
🏢 Salon suites promise the independence of booth rental, with a little bit of help like commission (aka corporate)...
Hint: This is the big wigs version of helping our industry.
But this, too, is another trap...
See, they help with a few things by rolling them into 1-Easy Payment...
Marketing to you as if you're signing up for a stay at an "all inclusive" resort...
We forget that "all inclusive" typically comes with price gouging fees...
That tend to feel less than luxurious at checkout...
(and definitely not like Easy)
You end up trading even more time for what feels like even fewer $$$...
Feeling even more stressed, hopeless, and overwhelmed than you did before...
Not exactly what you envisioned...
Feeling like a failure...
Beating yourself up for knowing better...
Than to take a bet on yourself...
Hey...
If any of this sounds like you...
I want you to know that
it is NOT your fault!
You are brave & worthy of winning!!!
Keep betting on YOU!
Because there IS ABSOLUTELY something You/Me/We CAN DO about it!
⚡ No more great hair—just fast, cheap root touch-ups every 15 minutes.
⚡ A new generation of underdeveloped talent, stuck in a cycle of boring, repetitive work, dreaming of doing more.
⚡ Stylists so burned out from assembly-line hair and back-to-back blowouts that their arms could rival Larry the Lobster’s.
This is the future...
A future of being owned...
If we don’t do something about it.
What we’re building at fille Garrow’s has never been done before. There’s no roadmap, no big corporate success story to model after. But what we do know is that every system before this has failed in one way or another.
So we’re doing what no one else is willing to do—building a new path...
The old “Apprentice-to-Master” tier system is a rigid, outdated way of thinking that reduces our careers to checkpoints on a ladder instead of honoring the artistry, service, and lifelong commitment we bring to this craft. Our careers are more than that. It’s not about climbing tiers—it’s about evolving.
At fille Garrow’s, we're breaking the mold. Instead of forcing artists into an outdated system, we're forging a new path with our own unique system.
I call it, The Evolution of an Artist—a blueprint I created to honor our journeys, our clients, and the real, lasting impact we make. It’s what I’ve used to develop our revolutionary business model in a way that actually supports creative professionals - not just salons - throughout their entire journey.
"The Evolution of an Artist"
10-Stages of Mastery & Impact
Phase 1 | The Awakening 🌱
(Inspiration & Exploration)
The first moment of inspiration—drawn to beauty, artistry, and transformation.
Exploring the industry, asking questions, observing, and dreaming of possibilities.
Learning under mentors, building foundational skills, and discovering personal style.
Phase 2 | The Craft ✂️
(Skill Development & Artistic Identity)
Gaining confidence, refining techniques, and beginning to build a clientele.
Selecting, refining, and presenting work with intention—shaping trends, aesthetics, and experiences.
Mastering the craft, setting trends, and building a strong reputation in the industry.
Phase 3 | The Influence 🌟
(Education, Innovation & Leadership)
Sharing expertise, mentoring the next generation, and expanding influence.
Pushing creative and business boundaries, pioneering new techniques and concepts.
Owning or leading a business, creating new opportunities, and scaling success.
Phase 4 | The Legend 🏆
(Impact & Industry Transformation)
Leaving a lasting impact, shaping the industry, and inspiring future generations.
A name that transcends time, becoming a symbol of artistry, influence, and mastery for generations to come.
We’re not settling as just another salon—we’re a legacy of artistry, mentorship, and innovation. Whether you're just starting or an established professional, we provide a business model that actually supports your success.
See, the problem with the old model is that it locks us into thinking our job as artists is to keep gaining more and more trade skills...
When really, there comes a point when what we need is to gain communication skills and leverage!
And, we need help!
But before I go on, I should probably address the elephant in the room...
You're probably thinking...
"Why Should I Trust You?"
You might be wondering: If this has never been done, how do I know it will work?
The truth? I don’t have proof. What I do have is experience, pattern recognition, and a deep understanding of why everything else has failed.
💡 I’ve seen how commission salons trap stylists—controlling their books, their clients, and their paychecks.
💡 I’ve seen how booth rental leaves stylists lost—without leadership, mentorship, or direction.
💡 I’ve seen how salon suites sell a dream of freedom but leave stylists overworked, overwhelmed, and just as trapped—except now they’re also stuck with a lease.
💡 And I’ve seen where the industry is headed—a race to niche, where stylists are trained for speed instead of skill, with no opportunities for growth, and real artistry is replaced with cheap, high-turnover services... run by venture capitalists... but don't take my word for it, go see who started Madison Reed and who really runs the show at all these Blow-Dry Bars and Salon Suites
I’ve been a hairstylist professionally for nearly 20 years, working behind the chair while earning my bachelor's of science in biochemistry (minor in biomedical engineering), master of chemistry, and doctor of philosophy in biomedical sciences-bioelectrics. I understand what it’s like to pour your heart into your work, only to feel undervalued, overworked, or stuck in a system that wasn’t built for you to thrive.
For a time, I stepped away from the salon and went into biotech, hoping to make an impact in another industry. Instead, I had my heart broken by the corruption I saw—systems designed to keep people sick, just like salon business models are designed to keep stylists struggling. That realization changed everything for me.
I left biotech, returned to my hometown, and came back to my roots—but not just to do hair again. This time, I came back with the knowledge, tools, and strategies to create something better.
Here’s what I’ve learned...
Principles work no matter the industry.
If my years in academia taught me anything, it’s that scientific principles are universal. Gravity doesn’t stop working just because you don’t believe in it—you’ll still take a tumble. And business, success, and personal growth all follow the same predictable laws that have existed since the beginning of time.
When you apply principles—in science, in business, in life—they work.
(Sometimes they work on you before they work for you, but you get to steal my 10,000+ hours;)
When you ignore them, things fall apart.
📊 I’ve run the numbers, and the math math’s—I’ve analyzed the financial pitfalls of commission, booth rental, and salon suites, and I know why they don’t work long-term.
🛠️ I’ve studied business strategy, leadership, and negotiation, not just to survive in the beauty industry, but to create a new model that gives stylists real leverage, ownership, and freedom.
💡 I’ve learned how to select the best tools, technology, and AI collaboration to streamline operations, allowing creatives to focus on artistry instead of burnout.
📈 I coach, I lead, I build—and I’m offering a new way forward.
I designed fille Garrow’s around The Evolution of an Artist, a blueprint that honors our journeys, our clients, and the real, lasting impact we make. This is what hairstylists, estheticians, and massage therapists actually need—a career path that is sustainable, fulfilling, and built to last.
This isn’t about creating another salon.
This is about saving the industry...
Those we serve and those we serve with.
Imagine working in a salon where your talent is recognized, your ideas are valued, and your career is always moving forward. A place where you’re surrounded by like-minded artists, all committed to elevating the industry, not just following the status quo.
